Energy efficiency of cellular networks including embodied energy
Purpose of this secial session
The intention of this Special session is to provide a detailed discussion on the integration of two currently very hot research areas – the efficient use of energy, and advances in the telecommunications field. We aim to offer power as well as telecommunications engineers and researchers an opportunity to collaborate and present their ideas, work and contributions associated with energy savings achieved by telecommunication infrastructures.
The general need to minimize the environmental impact on climate change caused by increased CO2 and other greenhouse gas concentration levels in the atmosphere calls for optimization and reduction of energy consumption in all aspects. The telecommunications industry offers a very perspective domain for improving energy efficiency, with approximately 3 percent of the total worldwide electrical energy being consumed by Information and Communication Technology. This special session will focus on various aspects of energy efficient communications, including those related to the design and performance of energy efficient protocols, systems, architectures, and applications. Furthermore, the telecommunications field offers support for energy savings solutions by providing platforms for data exchange, optimization of smart grids, heating/cooling, etc.
We encourage the authors with interest in these research fields to submit their original contributions.
